Two arrested after man is shot dead in car in West Bromwich
(about 1 hour later) | |
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of a 33-year-old man who was shot in the head while sitting in a stationary car.
West Midlands police said two men, aged 19 and 24, were detained on suspicion of murder shortly after the shooting in West Bromwich town centre on Tuesday.
The shooting happened near a pub at the junction with High Street at about 2.30pm.
A police spokesman said the men in custody were arrested in Dagger Lane, around a mile away from the scene.
Meanwhile, a grey Audi Q5 believed to have been used in the offence has been recovered and detectives are now appealing for anyone who saw the car in High Street, driving away from Dartmouth Street, to come forward. The vehicle was found in Kiniths Crescent, off Dagger Lane.
DI Martin Slevin, who is leading the inquiry, said: “The scene of the shooting remains cordoned off while we continue forensic examinations and we are conducting house-to-house inquiries.
“A man has lost his life in broad daylight so I would ask anyone who has information to assist us in establishing what happened yesterday afternoon to contact my team urgently.
“We have increased patrols in the area to reassure residents. However, we do believe this to be a targeted attack and there is no risk to the general public.”
A dark-coloured Ford hatchback, which had a smashed rear windscreen, was removed from the shooting scene on Tuesday night.
Information to assist the inquiry can be given to police on 101 or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. |
