Police have appealed for anyone who saw Ms Maclean or her car between 30 May and 14 June to get in touch. Det Chief Insp Bruce Kerr said: "Preliminary examinations of the scene have revealed an area of ground that has been disturbed and all indications are that it is a grave site.
The vehicle is a dark green Vauxhall Astra with the registration SP52 NYM. "Clearly this is a significant development and we are keeping relatives of missing person Dolina Maclean fully aware of our investigations.
Det Ch Insp Bruce Kerr said officers were "very very concerned" for the welfare of Ms Maclean. "Having discovered the site, we will begin the process of recovering evidence at the site of the grave and the surrounding area. This will take some time. Dolina Maclean has been missing since 30 May
He added: "She's an 87-year-old woman who is frail. Our aim is to try to find Dolina as quickly as possible. "If and when a body is recovered, it will be removed safely and taken to the mortuary in Dundee, where further forensic and post mortem examination will be undertaken. "She was a creature of habit, she shopped regularly at Tesco in the Crieff Road and any sightings of her or her Vauxhall Astra would be very helpful indeed. Scenes of crime officers and experts from the National Policing Improvement Agency are also involved.
"We have identified two areas of importance to us and the inquiry. I have a number of experts coming up to work closely with local officers and carry out a painstaking and thorough search of these two areas."
