Crash police officers disciplined

Eighteen police officers have been disciplined for bragging about collisions they have had while on duty, the Metropolitan Police has said.

They were reprimanded after posting messages on a social networking internet site Facebook.

The messages included photos of officers at crash scenes and boasts about hurting members of the public.

Fourteen of the officers have been given written warnings and another four received "words of advice".

'Totally unacceptable'

An investigation began in January after the site was brought to the attention of senior officers.

A group named "Yes, I've had a polcol" - or police collision, included pictures of smashed vehicles and hair-raising anecdotes.

One picture appeared to show a uniformed officer giving a thumbs-up in front of a wrecked patrol car pinned underneath a fallen tree.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The inquiry has now closed. Eighteen officers were subject to formal disciplinary proceedings."
