New York City’s Transit Dysfunction
http://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/20/opinion/new-york-citys-transit-dysfunction.html Version 0 of 1. To the Editor: Re “Slide in New York Subway’s Service Leaves Straphangers Fuming” (front page, Feb. 13): The main problem with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority — and it’s been the problem for decades — is that politicians don’t have accountability for it. Most New Yorkers don’t realize that the state is responsible for the M.T.A. Unfortunately, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is delighted to have Mayor Bill de Blasio blamed for its problems. Governor Cuomo’s executive budget recently proposed cutting M.T.A. funds by $65 million. I’ve implored local and state politicians for help (especially for the dysfunctional bus system) for years to no avail. I don’t see this situation changing any time soon. SHARON KAPNICK New York |
