Version 0 of 1.

An investigation is under way into the death of a soldier during an exercise at a firing range in Kent.

Police were called to the Lydd ranges at 0700 GMT on Thursday. A pathologist is conducting post-mortem tests.

The soldier's next of kin have yet to be informed, a spokesman for Kent Police said.

The range is on a stretch of coastline 15 miles (24km) south of Ashford. The Romney Marsh ranges have been used by the military for more than 100 years.

Although Kent Police will lead the inquiry, MoD police will be available if required.
