Version 0 of 1.

Two men arrested over the death of a seven-year-old boy who was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver while out on his bike have been released on bail.

Kyle McDermott died after being hit by a white transit van on Maple Road, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, on Monday.

The van driver did not call 999 and sped away from the scene, police said.

A 25-year-old Mexborough man and a 43-year-old man from Adwick-upon-Dearne were questioned on Wednesday and later released pending further inquiries.

Traffic calming measures

Police want to speak to the driver of a white car which may have nearly crashed into the white van on nearby Elm Road just before the incident.

Officers believe the van may be damaged at the front and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile people who live near Maple Road are set to meet with councillors after protesting over the lack of traffic calming measures in the area.

An inquest into the Kyle's death was due to be opened on Thursday.
