(about 6 hours later)
A member of staff at an East Yorkshire hospital has been arrested as police investigate a series of deaths there. A senior doctor arrested as part of a police investigation to a series of deaths at an East Yorkshire hospital said he has nothing to hide.
Police said the inquiry was triggered following the death of a patient at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham. Sean Bennett, a consultant anaesthetist at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham confirmed he had been spoken to by detectives and suspended from work.
The investigation has been extended to establish the circumstances of other deaths at the site, police said. The police inquiry follows the death of one patient at the hospital, Dr Bennett told the BBC on Wednesday.
A male staff member has been arrested over allegations of malpractice and has been released on bail. The trust said the man was not currently at work. As part of the probe police are looking at other deaths at the hospital.
