Arts team to revamp city street

A team of artists has been put together from more than 70 applicants from all over the world who offered to create a new artwork in Inverness.

The proposal is to transform the frontage of the Ramada Hotel on Church Street as part of a wider project to revamp the city centre.

The artists are Glasgow sculptor Alex Frost and London-based Hsiao-Chi Si, Kimiya Yoshikawa and Usman Haque.

Applications were attracted from the US, Europe and across Scotland.

Mr Frost works in multimedia and is an exhibitor at Glasgow's Sorcha Dallas gallery.

Haque is a design company, while the other two members of the team are recent graduates of the Royal College of Art.

Susan Christie, of the Inverness Old Town Art team, said exciting ideas were expected to emerge from the artists now involved.

She said: "We could not be more delighted with the breadth and diversity of the artists who applied to transform this highly visible building in the city centre.

"Two sculptors, a textile artist and a design company that works with unusual and new technologies have been selected for the next stage."

Proposed designs are expected by the autumn.
