He also promised Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni he would attend the G7 summit in Sicily, taking place the next day. Mr Trump recently met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and said he was "committed" to working with Israel and the Palestinians to reach a peace agreement. He has also expressed interest several times in meeting the Pope.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised the presidents' actions in Syria, and called his election a "great change in the direction of American policy." Mr Trump recently met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and said he was "committed" to working with Israel and the Palestinians to reach a peace agreement.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters last month that the administration would be reaching out to the Vatican to schedule a visit. Vatican spokesman Greg Burke told AFP that they would "welcome" a request for an official audience with the Pope.
