An 82-year-old woman has been robbed in her home in east Belfast, police have said.

Two men called at her house in Mount Merrion Avenue at about 1700 GMT on Saturday.

They pushed past her, searched the house and stole cash. Last week three pensioners were targeted by thieves.

DUP assembly member Robin Newton, who is chairman of Belfast's Policing Partnership, said more needed to be done to protect the elderly.

"Every aspect of the community - whether you're the individual, whether you're the politician, whether you're the community group - should be banding together to offer advice and support to help the senior citizen stay safe in his or her home," he said.
