Blocked M4 reopened after crash Pedestrian dies in motorway crash
(about 4 hours later)
The M4 has reopened after it was closed in both directions near Cardiff because of a multi-vehicle crash. A pedestrian was killed in a multi-vehicle road crash, which blocked the M4 in both directions near Cardiff.
A South Wales Police spokeswoman said a man, thought to be a pedestrian, had been killed in the incident between junctions 33 and 32. South Wales Police said the 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident happened eastbound between junctions 33 and 32 at Coryton.
Emergency services were called to the crash on the eastbound carriageway near Coryton and the junction with the A470 just before 0700 GMT. It is believed the man was walking on the motorway when he was in collision with a silver Volkswagen.
The westbound carriageway was also closed because of debris on the road. Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident at 0700 GMT on Sunday to call 01656 655555.
The motorway was closed for four hours, with the westbound carriageway affected by debris.
The dead man has not been named.
