The death of a man whose body was found at the foot of cliffs in East Sussex is being treated as a tragic accident. A man whose body was found at the foot of cliffs in East Sussex was a 74-year-old from south east London.
Police and coastguard teams were called out to a spot called Whitbread Hollow, near Beachy Head, in Eastbourne. Anthony Ralph, of Betts Way, was found on Saturday morning at cliffs behind Dukes Drive, Eastbourne.
They recovered the body of a man who was thought to have slipped and fallen to his death. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious, but inquiries by the coroner's officer were continuing.
Sussex Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious. "The scene is such that it's not an obvious place to commit suicide," a spokesman added. Officers said a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out on Tuesday and an inquest would be opened. Mr Ralph's family have now been informed.
The body was found at 0915 GMT on Saturday. On Saturday, police said it was thought the man had been walking along a cliff path.
A camera was discovered next to the man, who has yet to be formally identified.
His next of kin are in the process of being contacted and informed.
