1013: Gilo, accelerating like a 10-tonne barge, gets off the mark with a single, nudging Lee into the covers to bring up England's 300. Big, boomeranging wide down leg by Lee. Jones forces Lee through the covers for two. Punter fields, eschewing the dive, but looking pretty mobile nonetheless. Jones laces a half-bunger through the covers for four before flicking another ropey old ball away for four to mid-wicket, all run. 311-6 1023: The Barmy Army in full voice now, singing that lovely old hymn 'Barmy Army, Barmy Army' over and over and over again. I told you we were hilarious. Just seen Hoggard in the pavilion. He looks like a man getting ready to hitch his fiancee at the alter. Giles plays a wild and windy woosh at the last ball of the over and there's two from it. 321-6
1019: McGrath gives Gilo some early chin music and the King of Spain plays it regally down into the floor. Gilo follows up with an airy cut for for four before playing a cocky upper-cut down to the third man fence. He's not mucking about, Gilo, no doubt mindful that England have got three rabbits sniffing about back in the hutch upstairs. 319-6

1009: It's as if Pietersen's dismissal never happened - the Barmy Army are still having it in the stands, singing 'we're going to win 4-1'. The Aussies may be better than us at cricket, but we're far funnier. McGrath into the attack, his heel's obviously not that bad. Jones, playing well back in his crease, is almost trapped in front by McGrath. Jones' target will be getting a few runs to justify his selection - he flashes one to the backward point boundary before forcing through the covers for a couple. 299-61009: It's as if Pietersen's dismissal never happened - the Barmy Army are still having it in the stands, singing 'we're going to win 4-1'. 1002: WICKET England 293-6 (Pietersen 92)Pietersen defends the first ball of the day from Lee and Lee takes the new conker second up. Obviously wanted to get a loosener out of the way with the old one. Disaster for England - KP gone, flicking a half-volley on leg-stump straight to Martyn at short mid-wicket. Whoops-a-daisy Martin Haysey, as the Highbury faithful used to sing. Gilo in next and he survives the over.1002: WICKET England 293-6 (Pietersen 92)Pietersen defends the first ball of the day from Lee and Lee takes the new conker second up. 0959: KP and Jones are in the middle. It's virtually an all-England crowd - very few Aussies in, they clearly think it's done and dusted.0959: KP and Jones are in the middle. It's virtually an all-England crowd - very few Aussies in, they clearly think it's done and dusted.
0954: Who still thinks we can dig ourselves out of this? Let's all close our eyes for 10 seconds and see if we can muster up the Dunkirk spirit. The Aussies are out - led out by Gilchrist and not Ponting. Punter is still nursing a tweaked back. Poor mite...What the?! my colleagues on TMS have misled me - apologies. Ponting does lead them out after all.0954: Who still thinks we can dig ourselves out of this? Let's all close our eyes for 10 seconds and see if we can muster up the Dunkirk spirit. 0950: News reaches me that McGrath is a genuine doubt for Adelaide and may not take the new ball this morning. Heart-warming news for England. Punter Ponting, however, reckons he'll be there. He's already been spied on the pitch and looks as though he'll field today.0950: News reaches me that McGrath is a genuine doubt for Adelaide and may not take the new ball this morning. "It was good to have England taking it to the Aussies - it shows the rest of the guys in the dressing room that these fellas aren't supermen, they can be tackled. KP has learnt a lot. There awas a time yesterday when I thought the rush of blood was going to come, but he was able to take a couple of deep breaths and pull back a bit. As for Glenn McGrath, I'd be very scared about playing him with a bruised heel in Adelaide." 0938: Michael Holding just stuck a whole biro down one of the cracks in the Gabba pitch! No overnight rain though - but just a chance of a storm at some stage. However, the Aussies can take the new ball straightaway this morning, so there will be some hairy moments, you can guarantee that...0938: Michael Holding just stuck a whole biro down one of the cracks in the Gabba pitch! 0933: Morning/evening everyone. Well, if Pietersen and Jones manage to save this, they should be knighted and then stuffed and mounted in the Victoria and Albert Museum.0933: Morning/evening everyone.
