Teenage victim of museum stabbing Girl stabbed while holding baby
(about 5 hours later)
A girl found stabbed to death in a Liverpool museum was a 17-year-old from south of the city, police said. A girl who was fatally stabbed in a Liverpool museum was holding her baby son at the time of the attack.
Police were called to the World Museum Liverpool on Sunday, following reports a 21-year-old man had fallen from a third-storey internal balcony. Laura Bailey, 17, was stabbed in the World Museum on Sunday lunchtime but managed to hand the baby to a passer-by before she collapsed and died.
The teenager was then found with stab wounds. Both died later in hospital. Moments later, 21-year-old Kevin Howard - who police say was known to the teenager - jumped to his death from the third floor balcony.
Police said the girl's injuries were not self-inflicted. The pair knew each other and officers are not looking for anyone else over the deaths. Police say the 12-month-old baby is being looked after by social services.
The museum will remain closed on Monday while investigations are carried out and witnesses spoken to. The museum, on William Brown Street, was immediately evacuated following the deaths while police carried out forensic tests and interviewed witnesses. The building remained closed on Monday.
Balcony jump
Supt Oz Billings, from Merseyside Police, said: "Both the man and woman were taken to hospital but, despite the efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, they have both died.
"Officers are currently conducting interviews with witnesses, and the museum has been closed."
Police said the 21-year-old man was from the Knowsley area.
In May, 24-year-old Alexander Dutton climbed over a balcony on the sixth floor and apparently jumped.
