Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is due to deliver what is billed as a major speech outlining the possible way forward to a wider peace. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he hopes to revive long-stalled peace efforts with the Palestinians as a ceasefire takes hold in the Gaza Strip.
Mr Olmert will be speaking at the graveside of the founding prime minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion. He has been speaking at an annual memorial at the grave of Israel's founding premier David Ben-Gurion.

On Sunday, Mr Olmert spoke of a new beginning that could lead to direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians and a full settlement. Mr Olmert said the Palestinians stood at an "historic crossroads" which would see substantive improvements in their lives if they chose the path of peace.
As the ceasefire takes hold, there has been the immediate challenge of bloodshed in the Palestinian territories. "We will agree to leave large territories and dismantle settlements that we established," he said.
Israeli troops shot and killed two people in a raid in the West Bank early on Monday, one a militant from the Popular Resistance committees and the other a 55-year-old woman. Mr Olmert spoke of releasing many long-term Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, lifting restrictions on the occupied territories and ultimately creating a viable state.
The official Palestinian news agency said the woman had been shot as she went to the aid of the injured militant. The Israeli army said she had been trying to recover his gun. However, he also warned of the dire consequences if violence continues.

Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev said it would be possible to re-energise long-stalled political talks "if the Palestinians keep their commitments under the ceasefire". The BBC's Jon Leyne in Jerusalem said all Mr Olmert's pledges on Monday had been made before, but their importance lay in the context in which they are now being made.
