Man divorces wife who raped him when he was 12 'in order to sell cannabis'
Version 0 of 1. A man who married the teacher who was imprisoned for raping him when he was just 12-years-old, has filed for a legal separation “in order to sell cannabis”. Vili Fualaau, now 33, says he still loves Mary Kay Fualaau (formerly Letourneau), now 55, and they are happy together. But he said the separation will make it easier for him to get a license to distribute “Cigaweed” - marijuana cigarettes. The pair began their relationship when he was 12-years-old and she was his teacher. The married mother of four was 34 at the time. After a friend of her then, husband alerted authorities she plead guilty to two counts of second-degree child rape and was sentenced to six months behind bars and three years of sex offender treatment, on the proviso that she did not contact Mr Fualaau again. At the time she was pregnant with his child. She was sent back to prison after the pair were caught together in a car. But on her release in 2004, Mr Fualaau applied to the courts for permission to see her and the pair were married the following year. They now have two children together. Mr Fualaau has insisted that their current split is for business purposes only. “It’s not necessarily what you think. When you want to get licensed, they do background checks on both parties,” he told the New York Post. “If I decide to be a part of it, I have to be licensed, and I have to be vetted, and so does a spouse. She has a past. She has a history. “All the rumors that you hear between us. It’s fine. Of course [we are still in love]. A piece of paper doesn’t break someone’s feelings!” Mr Fualaau said he has been working as a DJ in the Washington area but wants to start his own business. The pair's relationship has been detailed in books and a movie and they have also featured in several interviews. |
