Teams compete for World Custard Pie Championship trophy

Determined teams from across the world gathered in Maidstone at the weekend in the hope of being crowned cream of the crop in a spectacular food fight.

The village of Coxheath has seen 50 years of food slinging at its annual World Custard Pie Championships.

This year, teams from Japan, Finland and France were among those who went head-to-head for the winner's trophy.

Saturday's event saw Coxheath Til I pie emerge as champions, with Custard Pie_rates the runners-up.

Strict rules mean participants must throw with their left hand.

Six points are awarded for a pie in an opponent's face, three for a strike below the shoulders and one for any other part of the body.
