Re “C.B.O. Analyzes the Republican Health Bill and Foresees Problems” (The Upshot, May 25):

Any reasonable person would assume that the goal of a health care bill would be to provide health care to people, not take it away. But Republicans refuse to put health care before their worship of the free market. This is why we are the only industrialized country not to ensure health care for everyone.

It is unacceptable for even one person to be denied health insurance, never mind 23 million, as the Congressional Budget Office report projects.

This bill has premiums declining as coverage becomes less generous. But no one can predict what kind of health care he or she will need, or when.

Let those in the House who voted for this atrocious bill “enjoy premiums some 20 percent lower” in exchange for more limited benefits. See how it feels not to be able to get the care you actually need.

With a little empathy, perhaps they will understand what the rest of the civilized world has learned: Putting profit above health care is unfair, barbaric and immoral.
