Man fatally stabbed in Southeast, several others injured in violence in District

One person was stabbed to death in Southeast Washington and several others were shot or stabbed Thursday night and early Friday in several areas around the District, according to police. The violence appeared scattered and unrelated, according to authorities, and occurred over more than a 12-hour stretch from about 6:45 p.m. Thursday to 11 a.m. Friday. The fatal stabbing occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Chesapeake Street SE, near Washington Highlands. Police said Dominic Brooks, 29, of Southeast was attacked and stabbed in the chest in front of a house. Brooks died at a hospital, police said. No arrests have been made. The violence began about 6:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of Alabama Avenue SE, just off Savannah Place. Police initially said three people had been shot but a report lists two victims. Both told police they heard gunshots and ran but were struck. Their injuries were described as not life-threatening. About 8:10 p.m., police said, a woman was stabbed in the abdomen in the 1300 block of Congress Street SE. No arrests were made, and police did not describe a motive. The woman is expected to survive, police said. Three people were shot about 12:20 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of F Street NE, near Miner Elementary School and three blocks south of the interchange of H Street, Bladensburg Road, Florida Avenue, Maryland Avenue and Benning Road. A police report says the victims had been in an alley when a gunman opened fire, striking one person in the lower back, another in the hip and a third in the arm. All injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. About 1:20 a.m., police said a woman was stabbed during a fight that spilled from a nightclub in the 1200 block of U Street NW. About 1:35 p.m., police said a man was shot in the shoulder during a robbery attempt in the 5200 block of Clay Street NE. And about 10:50 a.m., there was a shooting reported in the 2300 block of Hartford Street SE, where a man suffering from a gunshot wound was found conscious and breathing and a woman suffering from a graze wound was found conscious and breathing. |
