Girl 'cautioned' over fight video

One of two Cardiff schoolgirls seen fighting in a video posted on the internet has been given the equivalent of a police caution, it has emerged. It is not known which of the teenagers from Llanishen High School was given a formal reprimand over the fight. California-based website YouTube took down the video after it was condemned by UK anti-bullying campaigners. Education minister Jane Davidson said she had written to the Home Office to raise her concerns about the video. Neither girl has been excluded from school for the video which ends with one of the youngsters having blood on her face. However, one of the pair has since been given a formal reprimand, on a par with a police caution for someone aged under 18. It is not been established who posted onto the website the so-called "bitch fight" video, recorded on a mobile phone, although a 15-year-old girl is listed at its author. YouTube allows users to post content directly. Among hundreds of similar fight videos still online were three claiming to involve boys at another school in south east Wales. Llanishen High School has issued a reprimand to one of the girls Anti-bullying charity Kidscape had called for the video of the two girls to be taken off. Jane Davidson said she remained concerned at the easy access to "social networking" websites young people had outside of school. In a statement, she said she had written to all local authorities in Wales to check they had appropriate limits in place to regulate access to such website from their premises. She said: "The Welsh Assembly Government is currently consulting on issues around e-safety. "I have written to the Home Office with regard to whether the use of social networking sites can be better monitored through their Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre and Internet Safety Task Force. "I also call upon the site providers to make sure they do not hold inappropriate material." |
