Fairfax police investigating man’s death in jail cell

An inmate was found hanging in his cell at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center on Sunday night.

The man was committed to the jail June 27 on a malicious wounding charge and was being held without bond. He was described by sheriff’s officials as a 33-year-old Asian man. His death will be investigated by the Fairfax police.

The inmate was found in his cell by a sheriff’s deputy about 6:50 p.m., police said. Deputies and medical staff performed CPR until an emergency crew arrived and took over the rescue effort. He was pronounced dead 34 minutes later.
