He was supposed to be in charge of the money for a booster club at a high school in Reston, Va., as the group’s treasurer.

But police in Fairfax County said Robert Clinage, 58, wasn’t properly doing his volunteer job for the South Lakes High School Booster Club, which was formerly called the South Lakes High School Athletic Boosters.

Clinage has been arrested on charges of embezzling at least $60,000 from the club.

An internal audit of the club’s account first found a shortage in funds. And in December 2016, a criminal investigation started.

Police said charges were filed in June against Clinage. He turned himself in to authorities on July 12 and was taken to a county jail.

Clinage could not immediately be reached for comment on the charges.

Clinage was not an employee of the school. Booster clubs are not a part of area schools, according to officials.
