Police searching for the suspected driver of the terrorist attack at Las Ramblas in Barcelona on Thursday have shot one person dead and are examining a suspected explosive device at the scene. Police have confirmed they have shot dead Younes Abouyaaqoub, the suspected driver in the terrorist attack on Las Ramblas in Barcelona Thursday in an operation at Subirats, just outside the city.
The bomb disposal unit is deploying a robot at the scene to inspect the suspicious device and the suspect’s remains, police indicated.
Catalan police said on Twitter that they are carrying out an operation in Subirats, 45km (28 miles) west of Barcelona.
Local media claim that the shot man is the suspected Barcelona attack driver, however his identity has not been confirmed by the authorities. The bomb disposal unit deployed a robot at the scene to inspect what they thought was an explosive belt worn by the suspect. 
Local reports say Abouyaaqoub was shot as he approached a police vehicle. They also claim that police helicopters are searching the area for a suspected accomplice.
Authorities have asked people in the area not to broadcast the location of checkpoints as the security operation is ongoing.
