A man armed with a knife and baseball bat is inside a house on Parry Mead, Woodley, Stockport and has been making threats, police said. | |
Police said they have been trying to engage with the 39-year-old man. Officers went to the property at 08:25 BST searching for a man on recall. | |
Police believe another man and a woman are also at the house but do not think they are being held hostage. | |
A cordon is in place around the area and although there are restricted areas around the scene, no evacuations have taken place. | |
Insp Stephen Gilbertson of Greater Manchester Police said he hoped the situation would be "brought to a safe conclusion very soon". | |

"We have spent today attempting to engage with the man to bring this siege situation to a safe and peaceful end," he said. | |
"I understand the local community will be extremely concerned but I would like to reassure them that we are doing all that we can to keep everyone safe. | |
"Seeing armed officers on the streets is always worrying, however they are there purely as a precaution should the situation escalate." | |
