Steve Bannon declares war on every Republican politician except Ted Cruz
Version 0 of 1. Stephen Bannon has a menacing message for every Republican in Congress: No one is safe. Mr Bannon, in an interview on Fox News, said that he’s putting together a group to challenge every incumbent Republican, except for Texas Senator Ted Cruz. “There’s a coalition coming together that is going to challenge every Republican incumbent except for Ted Cruz,” Mr Bannon told Sean Hannity. The former White House chief strategist said that he’s prepared to go after anybody who does not faithfully fight for Donald Trump’s agenda. Noting that Mr Trump was able to win states in the 2016 election that have eluded Republican presidential candidates in recent history, Mr Bannon said that the Trump agenda is a winner. “There’s a basic agenda that Trump ran on and won. He carried states Republicans haven’t carried in living memory — Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania. This agenda works. The American people voted for it,” Mr Bannon said. “By the way, [Mitch] McConnel would not be majority leader unless Trump — in North Carolina and Missouri and Wisconsin — was able to carry those senators across the finish line. IT’s incumbent upon them to back President Trump’s plan, but you don’t see it,” Mr Bannon said.
Mr Bannon has returned to his role at Breitbart News after leaving the White House, and has said previously that he would use is post to promote the President’s nationalist agenda. To take on the Republican establishment, he said, he and his team have been working with grassroots organizers to identify candidates who they could elevate to Congress. He did not indicate who exactly he would target in his quest to reshape the Republican Party in power, but did say that he was in for the long-haul. He noted in the interview on Fox that sweeping Congressional changes could take 15 to 20 years. |
