Met issues weather warning for NI Flooding leads to NI roads chaos

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Northern Ireland. Heavy overnight rain has resulted in widespread flooding and dangerous driving conditions across Northern Ireland.

The Old Warrenpoint road in Newry is particularly bad and there's heavy flooding on the Cornakinnegar Road heading towards Lurgan. The Rathfriland Road in Banbridge is closed in both directions after a river burst its banks.
There is also heavy flooding on the Maghaberry Road and the Glenavy Road from the Moira Road towards the international airport. There is heavy flooding on the Old Warrenpoint Road, Newry, the Cornakinnegar Road near Lurgan and the A26 Moira Road.
However, both roads are currently passable with care. There have been reports of flooding on the A26 Moira Road, in Banbridge and in Newry. With excess spray and standing water, road conditions could be dangerous and motorists should exercise extra caution, the Met Office has said.
