To the Editor:

Re “New York City Will Miss a Deadline to Accommodate 5 New Charter Schools” (news article, nytimes.com, Oct. 12):

You observe that Mayor Bill de Blasio, who had evicted three of Success Academy’s schools from public school facilities, reversed course after an advertising campaign.

You didn’t mention that the mayor’s actions were protested by thousands of parents and teachers both in Albany and New York City, were subjected to withering critiques in numerous newspaper editorials, and were decried by many elected officials, including Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.

To imply that advertising alone caused Mayor de Blasio to reverse course is an unduly cynical view of the political process.
