Woman dies following sea rescue Woman dies and man injured in sea
(30 minutes later)
A woman has died after being pulled from the sea off Blackpool. A woman has died and a man is in hospital after a couple were rescued off the Fylde coast in Lancashire.
The woman was rescued by a lifeboat crew from a stretch of water opposite the cenotaph on the seafront in the early hours but later died in hospital. The pair were pulled from the water at Blackpool Promenade in the early hours of the morning.
A man with serious head injuries was also pulled from the water and is being treated at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. It is not known how or why the couple - who are believed to be from the Manchester area - were in the water and a police investigation is under way.
