UK terror arrests rise to 400 in year that saw five terror attacks hit Manchester and London

Version 0 of 6. The number of people arrested for terror offences in the UK has reached a new high of 400 in a year, statistics show. They include dozens of arrests made after the terror attacks in Westminster, Manchester, London Bridge, Finsbury Park and Parsons Green. Under a third of those detained in the year to 30 September were prosecuted for committing a crime and more than a half were released without charge, with others freed on bail or facing alternative action. In the same period, 78 terrorism trials saw just nine people acquitted and almost 90 per cent convicted. There were 213 terrorists in custody – a quarter up on the previous year – with the vast majority holding Islamist extremist views, followed by the far-right and others. More follows…
