Friends of a boy who is in a coma after a car crash have raised more than £3,000 to help pay for his parents' hospital accommodation.

Owen Mizielinksi, 17, was the passenger in a car which overturned in icy conditions near Colchester on Tuesday.

He was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where rooms are £55 a night for overnight visitors.

A family friend has set up a Just Giving page which has so far raised £1,025 more than its £2,000 target.

Mr Mizielinski was on his way to work when the car crashed in Fingringhoe Road, Rowhedge.

'Overwhelmed'

Police said the investigation into the crash was ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Laura O'Rourke, a relative of one of Owen's friends, set the fundraising page up.

She said: "I would like to reach out to people to try and help support this family during this difficult time.

"Money should not stand in-between this family spending every moment with their son, brother and friend."

Sarah Mizielinski posted a message on the page saying the family was "overwhelmed" by the support for her son.

"We have been telling Owen everyone is praying for him and would like you to know it means a lot, thank you so so so much," she wrote.
