Two police officers in hospital after being hit by car in London
(about 1 hour later) | |
Two police officers were seriously injured when they were hit by a Maserati as they walked to their vehicle.
The police constables, one male and one female, both in their 30s and based in Brent borough, in north-west London, were returning to a marked police vehicle parked on the A406 near Brent Park in Neasden when the car hit them at around 3.40am.
The driver of the Maserati, a man aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen of breath, Scotland Yard said. Police said the car sustained serious damage and stopped at the scene.
The female officer sustained a number of fractures, and her condition was described as serious but stable. The male officer sustained serious injuries.
The officers had been at the location assisting with police enquiries in relation to an unrelated matter.
London ambulance service took the two officers to hospital along with a female occupant of the car. The woman, in her 40s, was not seriously injured but remains in hospital.
Roads were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, but all cordons have now been lifted.
