A man and a woman have died in a car crash in Merseyside that also left two children seriously injured. A couple killed in a car crash that left their two children seriously injured have been named by police.
Merseyside police were called to the collision between a silver Volkswagen Golf and a red Vauxhall Corsa in Liverpool Road, Haydock, at about 7.20pm on Sunday. Mike and Karen Young, both 37, from Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan, died after the collision in Haydock, Merseyside, on Sunday evening.
A police spokesman said the driver of the Golf, a 37-year-old man, and a passenger, a 37-year-old woman, had died after the incident. The children, a 16-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, are in a serious condition in hospital. A 29-year-old male who was a passenger in the same car is critically ill.
A 16-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, who were also passengers in the Golf, were both in hospital in a serious condition. The 27-year-old male driver of the other vehicle involved, a red Vauxhall Corsa, is receiving treatment in hospital for minor injuries.
A 29-year-old man, another passenger in the Golf, was in a critical condition. Anyone who witnessed or has any information about the collision should call police on 0151 777 5747 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Police said the 27-year-old male driver of the Corsa was being treated for minor injuries in hospital.
