The jailed British mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been made eligible for early release from jail in Iran, her husband told Sky News.The jailed British mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been made eligible for early release from jail in Iran, her husband told Sky News.
Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who has been in prison for more than 600 days, was told the news in jail by her Iranian lawyer, who said she had been added to a judicial database indicating she could be set free before her full five year sentence was up.
It marks a dramatic turnaround in the British-Iranian citizen's case, who was arrested during a holiday to visit family in Iran in 2016 and charged with plotting against the Tehran government. Last month, comments made by the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson - that she was in Iran "training journalists" - saw her threatened with additional charges and the prospect of a longer sentence.
But that court hearing was suspended, her husband Richard Ratcliffe said, after Mr Johnson visited Iran for meetings with his Iranian counterpart, as well as the head of the country's security services and the President, Hassan Rouhani.
