However, Miss Forrest's parents said they were left horrified at his "lenient punishment" for killing their only child.
Mother Sharron Forrest said: "It is a disgrace. He will be out and given the chance to start a new life when our daughter should have been celebrating her 18th birthday.
"How can he live with the fact he has taken our little girl's life away. She was out with her friends, going to the cinema, as teenagers do, and the next thing she is dead.
"There is no way back for us. He has a wee bairn and is going to get to watch his child grow up - what about mine?"
