Woman arrested after city assault

A 23-year-old woman is being treated in hospital after being seriously assaulted in west Belfast.

The incident, which was reported to police at about 0130 BST on Monday, happened in a lay-by close to playing fields on the Andersonstown Road.

The victim is described as being in a critical, but stable condition.

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested. Police have appealed to a taxi driver who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
