A teenager who kicked an ambulance driver in the stomach must pay him £500 compensation, Londonderry Magistrates court has heard.

The driver was responding to a call at Gary Sean McGuinness's home in Slievemore Park when the 18-year-old attacked him on 7 December 2007.

He also admitted disorderly behaviour at Altnagelvin hospital's A&E.

McGuinness was given two years probation, community service, and ordered to pay the driver £500.

District Judge Barney McElholm said he would normally jail people who attacked medical staff, but McGuinness's previous clear record and good character had saved him from jail.
