Mr Patel's colleague, Jagmeet Sethi, said: "It's very hard to accept this. He's not here any more. It is very difficult."
He said Mr Patel built a reputation among customers as a "very helpful, quiet, down-to-earth" man who would help shoppers carry their bags.
The 27-year-old added: "He was a very nice guy, a good-natured guy. If you bought something he would go with you to your car and give it to you."
