The band’s debut album, “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?,” was released in 1993, and sold over 5 million copies in the United States. It rose to No. 1 in other countries, and hit the top of the album chart in 1994 in the United Kingdom.
The band split in 2003 but reunited in late 2009 and began touring again.
But last year, the group canceled dates on its European and North America tours due to Ms. O’Riordan’s ongoing back problems.
“There have been some comments suggesting that Dolores could perform if she sat while singing. Unfortunately it is not as simple as that,” a statement on the group’s Facebook page said then.
The Cranberries released the acoustic album “Something Else” in 2017 and had plans to perform shows in Europe and North America. But the tours were cut short or canceled because of her health problems, it said.
“Dolores’ back problem is in the mid to upper area of her spine and the breathing and diaphragmatic movements associated with singing put pressure on the muscles and nerves in that area and exacerbate the pain,” it said. “Sitting does not give any relief and at times in her case it can actually worsen the pain.”
