The epicentre of the quake was 30 miles south east of Patras, Greece’s third largest city, over 200 miles west of the capital.
The US Geological Survey confirmed the quake measured 4.4, and followed a separate 4.3 magnitude earthquake which struck the Peloponnese region earlier.
The quake came as protesters clashed with police outside Greece’s parliament over the government’s plans to implement further austerity measures and restrictions on workers’ right to strike.
