Kaimes Beasley from the coastguard told BBC Scotland: "Weather conditions this morning are pretty much ideal for searching - a westerly wind, from force 3-4 from the west and good visibility. Jonathan Hart, area commander for the coastguard, told BBC Scotland his strategy was "preservation of life".
"Obviously one complicating factor at night is the absence of light. Conducting a search at night in darkness presents its own challenges. "We are in full search mode," he said.
"The search will continue through the course of today. We are also working with our colleagues in Police Scotland with regards to working with the families of the crew members." "We have four lifeboats out on Loch Fyne currently and a large number of coastguard specialist search teams scouring both the Cowal peninsula and the Kintyre peninsula.
"We also have coastguard helicopter in the air, doing an infra-red search. We have about 10 local vessels supporting the maritime search.
"Conditions at sea last night were relatively calm and very cold. The wind has slightly picked up today.
"Searching on the ground is on very difficult and challenging terrain, up and down the coastlines. That's why've we've enlisted air support and access from sea via the RNLI."
He added: "I have been to see each of the families in the local area and I have given them my reassurance that we are doing everything we can to recover their families."

A statement from the MAIB said: "We have started an investigation into the capsize of the UK registered fishing vessel Nancy Glen in Loch Fyne, Scotland on 18 January 2018.
"Two crew members are currently missing."
