Three boys were killed after a car, believed to be travelling at high speed, mounted a pavement at a bus stop in Hayes on Friday night. A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene, but police had been searching for a second man travelling in the car who had fled. | |
A Metropolitan Police statement said: “A man sought by police in connection with a fail to stop road traffic collision in Hayes that resulted in the death of three young men has handed himself in at a police station. | |
“The 34-year-old man voluntarily attended a north London police station shortly after 7pm on Sunday, 28 January. | |
“He has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into custody for questioning.” | |
The three victims have been named locally as Harry Rice, George Wilkinson and Josh Kennedy, who are understood to have been on their way to a birthday party at a nearby football club. | |
Despite the efforts of paramedics, all three boys were pronounced dead at the scene. | |
Detective Sergeant Michael Rapp, of the Met's serious collision investigation unit, said: "Earlier today, police released images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with this incident. | |
"A man has now handed himself in at a police station and been arrested before being taken into custody for questioning. I would like to thank the media and public for their assistance with this appeal. | |
"This is a fast-moving investigation and CCTV inquiries and forensic analysis of the car involved are under way. | |
"At least two males are believed to have left the black Audi A5 following the collision. | |
"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the collision and the number of occupants in the vehicle involved." | |
He also appealed for privacy for the families, who were "still barely coming to terms with their loss". | |
The first suspect remains in police custody. | |
