Sad Farewell to a Movie Theater
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/30/opinion/lincoln-plaza-cinemas.html Version 0 of 1. To the Editor: Re “Less Chance to Get Together in the Dark” (Editorial Notebook, Jan. 28): Clyde Haberman makes clear that the shutting down of Lincoln Plaza Cinemas in Manhattan is a myopic act, blind to the reality of an aging Upper West Side community. Milstein Properties, which owns the property, should follow what other knowing ownerships have done once a property is in decline: Rebuild, as the New York Yankees did with a new Yankee Stadium, or the Whitney with a new museum. There is a large audience waiting to be tapped, and a re-energized movie theater showing mostly foreign films still has a devoted following in this city. PETER SAMTON, NEW YORK |
