A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. Next of kin are aware but formal identification awaits. Four men, all prisoners at HMP Wormwood Scrubs and in their early twenties, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. All four remain in police custody.

  It comes less than two months after a formal inspection of the jail raised concerns over chronic staff shortages, food shortages and a surge in violence.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and further enquiries into the incident continue. Inspectors also found areas of the west London jail were strewn with litter, attracting rats and cockroaches, in what they said painted an “extremely concerning picture”.
