Father charged with baby's murder Father denies murdering baby son
(about 20 hours later)
A man is to appear in court charged with murdering a baby. The father of a 14-week-old baby boy has been remanded in custody accused of his murder.
The charges are believed to be connected to the death of 14-week-old Cameron Leslie, from the New Mossley estate in Newtownabbey. Ryan Leslie, 24, appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court following the death of his son Cameron on Saturday.
He died on Saturday after being admitted to hospital on Thursday with a number of injuries. Mr Leslie, of Ballyvessey Green, New Mossley, Newtownabbey, spoke only to confirm that he understood the charge against him.
It is understood the 24-year-old man who is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday is the baby's father. His son died in hospital after being admitted last Thursday with a number of injuries.
The child's 18-year-old mother is being comforted by relatives. A detective inspector who claimed he could connect Leslie to the charge, confirmed during cross-examination that the accused had co-operated with police and provided an account during extensive interviews.
