The long-running Radio 4 drama The Archers is to be honoured with two stars on Birmingham's Walk of Fame.

The series was first recorded at the BBC in Birmingham in 1950 and actor Norman Painting, recipient of one star, has played Philip Archer since then.

The other star is dedicated to the drama itself.

Other West Midlands celebrities to have been given a star include rock stars Ozzie Osbourne and Noddy Holder and motor racing commentator Murray Walker.

'Many more years'

"I couldn't believe my ears when I was told I would be receiving a star," Mr Painting said.

"I am thrilled, delighted and honoured and very proud of it."

Vanessa Whitburn, editor of the Archers added: "Despite being set in rural Ambridge, Birmingham has always been where The Archers' is recorded.

"We're delighted to receive a star to celebrate our place in the city and thrilled for Norman to receive such an accolade.

"Birmingham is a special place for many of the cast and production team and we hope to enjoy many more years making the UK's longest running drama here".
