A detective inspector said the police case was that the murder was a joint enterprise between all of the accused, who were all remanded in custody. All four men who appeared in court in Omagh on Tuesday were remanded in custody.
Revenge
He said he believed they were travelling to the Hughes' family home together in a taxi - to seek revenge for the beating of another man.
One of those accused of murder, Mr Kinnear, applied for bail. His solicitor said he had been in the taxi - but ran away from the scene.
He said his client was horrified by the murder and wanted to distance himself from it. He claimed his account could be verified by CCTV pictures.
The police said the CCTV footage had not been examined yet and 25 witnesses had still to be interviewed.
Bail was refused and all four men were remanded in custody for three weeks.
