Trèbes siege - live updates: Armed police raid supermarket and shoot gunman dead after terror attack in Southern France Trèbes terror attack - live updates: Police shoot dead gunman Redouane Lakdim after three killed in hostage siege
(about 1 hour later)
Gunmen have shot at police and taken hostage in a small town in the south of France, according to local reports. A terror attacker has been shot dead by police after he took hostages and fired at officers in the south of France.
French Interior Ministry said on Twitter on Friday that security officials were carrying out an operation at a supermarket in town of Trebes in southern France. Police raided the Super U shop in Trèbes early this afternoon and killed Redouane Lakdim, 26, who is said to have killed three people near Toulouse and claimed affiliation with Isis.
But authorities gave no further details on media reports that a hostage situation was ongoing.  At least a dozen people were wounded in a string of assaults.
Investigators think the suspect hijacked a car after leaving the nearby city of Carcassonne and that one of the people in the vehicle was killed.
Interior minister Gérard Collomb said Lakdim then shot at a group of police officers before hiding inside the supermarket, where two more people were killed.
