Version 0 of 1.

An Army recruit found hanging at a barracks in Surrey has been formally identified as a 29-year-old single man from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

Anthony Manuel Jose Hernandez was found at the Alexander Barracks at Pirbright Army camp on Sunday.

A post-mortem examination concluded there was no evidence of third party involvement in his death. Results of toxicology tests are still awaited.

An inquest is due to be opened and adjourned later.

Surrey Police said they were making inquiries into the "full circumstances" of his death.

Bullying prevention

The post-mortem examination, carried out at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, found the cause of death was suspension.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Mr Hernandez, but his death was confirmed at about 0800 BST on Sunday.

Accommodation blocks designed to offer modern, comfortable facilities for new recruits opened earlier this year at Alexander Barracks.

As part of the Army's efforts to improve conditions for new recruits, the 12-man dormitory-style rooms are partitioned into four areas to provide a degree of privacy.

Specific policies to improve the mental health of the recruits and to identify and prevent bullying have been in place for some time at the barracks.
