Det Insp Brian Semple said: "Inquires are at a very early stage, however early indications suggest the fire may be suspicious and we would therefore appeal to anyone who has any information about this to contact us.
"We cannot be sure if it was started deliberately or if it was accidental at this time, however a thorough investigation over the next few days will shed some light into the cause.
"This is an absolute tragedy for a young mother to lose her life in this way and we are determined to find out the circumstances."
The name of the dead woman has not yet been released.
