Casper and Corey Platt-May: Father of two boys killed in hit-and-run found dead in hotel room | Casper and Corey Platt-May: Father of two boys killed in hit-and-run found dead in hotel room |
(35 minutes later) | |
The father of two boys killed by a speeding drink-driver in a hit-and-run crash has been found dead at a hotel in Greece.
Reece Platt-May’s body was discovered on the island of Corfu in the early hours of Thursday. The 30-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious, West Midlands Police said.
Corey Platt-May, six, and his brother Casper, two, died after they were struck by a driver high on cocaine in February. They had been walking to a park near their home in Coventry with their mother, Louise, when they were killed.
Robert Brown, 53, was jailed for nine years at Warwick Crown Court last month after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.
He was four times the legal drink-driving limit and had taken cocaine before he mowed down the brothers in a Ford Focus at 61mph in a 30mph zone.
The car struck the brothers with such force that Corey was found several metres down the road.
It later emerged Brown had more than 30 previous driving convictions and had been released from prison just six days before the crash, described by judge Andrew Lockhart QC as “horrifying”.
In a statement read in court as Brown was jailed on 27 April, Mr Platt-May said on behalf of his wife: “My heart is broken, and time will never heal this. I will miss them forever. This monstrous act will haunt me.
“Every minute, I picture their faces on the road. The sound of the car hitting them. Their faces will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
She said the couple’s two remaining sons were still suffering nightmares about their brothers’ deaths, which they also witnessed.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Mr Platt-May was found dead in a hotel room in Corfu, Greece during the early hours of Thursday, 17 May.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious. His family has been notified and the matter will be passed to the coroner.
“Our condolences go to the family who have asked for the media to respect their privacy at this difficult time.” |
